Microsoft je najavio da će objaviti izvorni kod .NET Frameworka u .NET 3.5 i Visual Studiu 2008 kasnije ove godine. Počet će sa objavljivanjem izvornog koda (s uključenim komentarima) za .NET osnovne biblioteke, Windows Forme, XML i WPF. Izvorni kod bit će objavljen pod MS-RL licencom i moći će se skinuti kao samostalna instalacija.
